Laurie Jean & Rose bio picture
  • Hi, and welcome to Laurie Jean & Rose. My name is Lauren, and I have been photographing newborns since 2010 in the NW Atlanta area and all over! My love affair with newborn photography began shortly after the birth of my youngest son, when I missed the window for my son’s sleepy newborn photos due to my photographer canceling on me at the last minute. Unfortunately I didn’t get any sleepy posed shots of him, but so began my interest and love for newborn photography.

    I am completely self-taught, and have photographed over 1,000 newborns over the last near decade. My goal is that you find our session an enjoyable experience, are completely relaxed, and love your newborn photos for many years to come. I prefer to focus on timeless images with simple props vs. the latest gimmick. 80’s clothes and hair, anyone? Okay, that era was actually pretty awesome, but let’s keep the baby photos fresh.

    Hope to hear from you!

    xoxo Lauren

Delilah Maternity Sneak Peek {Atlanta, GA Maternity Photographer}

Delilah and her husband contacted me to book a newborn session for their baby girl due in October, and they scheduled a maternity session as well. I was so excited to do their maternity shoot as the bulk of my work over the past year and a half has been newborns, but I started craving more spontaneity and change, so it has been nice to refresh my outdoor portfolio lately with older subjects.

For Delilah’s maternity session, I chose a combination of Marietta Square and Kennesaw Mountain. It took me quite a long time to find parking at the square because there was a festival going on, so by the time we got started we were a bit limited on time as I didn’t want to miss the gorgeous light at the mountain.

I took the time before the session to make the cute little “Girl” banner, and I’m glad I did. I didn’t have any pink paper that wasn’t neon, but Mom isn’t a huge fan of pink anyway, so purple won! :)

I also headed to their home after the outdoor shots with my studio light, and we got some great indoor maternity shots as well. Can’t wait to meet their baby girl soon for her newborn session!

Henry Sneak Peek {Atlanta, Sandy Springs Newborn Photographer}

Henry was 8+ pounds of goodness! I love chunky newborns! They tend to sleep the best :) Henry’s parents are huge Auburn fans, so they wanted to incorporate some of those colors into the shoot. Henry was 6 days old when we did the shoot, and he was nearly perfect…didn’t give me much of a problem, and the session went pretty smoothly. And his parents were both dressed in orange and navy for the family shots that we got…how fun!

Little Henry did pee all over me, though! I’ve been peed on, pooped on, and spit up on a *lot*…but Henry was lying on his side, so his pee shot straight out onto me. My camera was nearby on the floor, so I used my arm to deflect. Haha! Time he started peeing, I looked over in shock at his parents. I am never shocked by pee, but I think he just took me by surprise. The parents always feel worse about it than I do. Pee honestly doesn’t bother me at all anymore. I haven’t been hit in the face yet…waiting on that one, and I’m sure it will happen one day…lol!

Mom brought a pumpkin hat she had bought somewhere, but it was too big. Luckily, I had this adorable pumpkin bonnet on hand. One of my favorite hats, and I’m glad it’s fall so that I can put it to use more!

Creed – 7 Weeks Sneak Peek {Atlanta, Jonesboro Baby Photographer}

Creed’s mom brought him to me for a newborn style shoot, but babies are much harder to photograph between 11 days of age and 3 months. They don’t tend to do much during that time, and they generally are not able to be posed after 2 weeks of age, with it being considerably more difficult after 10 days. Creed, however, was born 3 weeks early, so I thought maybe we could snap at least a few newborn-style photographs, but we only got a couple of him sleeping indoors before taking him outside to get some nice awake shots.

**It’s important to say that even if you feel it’s “too late” for sleepy newborn pix, it’s still important to have their pictures done! Even different expressions or capturing them on different blankets or with mom and dad is something you will treasure forever. You won’t look back in 18 years when your baby is graduating and think, “Man, I really hate I didn’t get those shots of my baby propped up on his elbows holding his head in his hands like my friends did with their babies.” You will think, “Wow, that was how my baby looked 18 years ago!!” You’ll be so glad you went ahead and got those pictures!

Creed’s hair is so precious. Love babies with lots of hair at birth, and he had some cute expressions! I love how he looks like he’s sort of scratching his head like, “Really, Mom? Who is this lady!?!?” He’s super handsome in blue, too! :)

Sloane Sneak Peek {Kennesaw, Atlanta Newborn Photographer}

Baby Sloane was my first redhead ever! I was so excited when her mom told me she had red hair. Of the many babies I’ve photographed, I’ve never had a redhead. Mom and Dad didn’t find out the sex, and I was in the movie theater when I saw the email announcing Sloane’s birth. Without thinking, I assumed Sloane was a boy, and her mom wrote back and told me she was a girl. Feeling embarrassed, I did a bit of Googling, and I quickly found that most people feel it is a girl’s name, and Sloane is the girlfriend of Ferris in Ferris Bueller. As much as I watched that movie as a kid, I would think I’d remember that. Sloane is also the daughter of Dr. Sloane on Grey’s Anatomy. Apparently I have been living under a rock :)

Nonetheless, Sloane suits this redheaded beauty well! Her newborn session went fairly well, though she was a bit feisty at times…or…hungry!
