Laurie Jean & Rose bio picture
  • Hi, and welcome to Laurie Jean & Rose. My name is Lauren, and I have been photographing newborns since 2010 in the NW Atlanta area and all over! My love affair with newborn photography began shortly after the birth of my youngest son, when I missed the window for my son’s sleepy newborn photos due to my photographer canceling on me at the last minute. Unfortunately I didn’t get any sleepy posed shots of him, but so began my interest and love for newborn photography.

    I am completely self-taught, and have photographed over 1,000 newborns over the last near decade. My goal is that you find our session an enjoyable experience, are completely relaxed, and love your newborn photos for many years to come. I prefer to focus on timeless images with simple props vs. the latest gimmick. 80’s clothes and hair, anyone? Okay, that era was actually pretty awesome, but let’s keep the baby photos fresh.

    Hope to hear from you!

    xoxo Lauren

Edie Sneak Peek {Atlanta Marietta Newborn Photographer Alpharetta Photography}

Edie was so sweet and perfect…LOVE her name, too! She had great skin…not too red or yellow, and she did great throughout her session. Poor little Edie had a bit of an injury from birth and had a broken clavicle, so we had to be careful with her when posing. I could tell a few times that she seemed to be a little uncomfortable, so we decided not to do the frog pose (chin resting in hands) and also opted not to do the chin on hands pose on the blanket and instead do it in a bucket so that was less likely to be uncomfortable and had some more support.

Edie’s great aunt made this beautiful lavender blanket for her! I was concerned it wasn’t quite large enough for the posing, but it actually worked out just fine. Her mom has a little purple obsession, and I am right there with her! Purple is such a nice change from pink, and sometimes I get sad when moms don’t want to use purples. It’s a beautiful color and looks great on newborns :)

Mom and Dad also brought a little Western Kentucky towel with them that they wanted to incorporate. The way we positioned it was actually Dad’s idea, and I have to say that his idea was definitely better than what Mom and I were trying to do with it. Lol!

Wyatt Sneak Peek {Smyrna Atlanta Newborn Photographer Alpharetta Newborn Photography}

Wyatt was so precious! And I sure do get some of the most beautiful moms! At 13 days old, he really did an awesome job with his session. He had to take a few feeding breaks, but he really did extremely well with it. He certainly surprised me, as I generally don’t like to photograph babies past 10 days. 7-10 days of age is the ideal range for photographing newborns as they are still very sleepy and bendable. USUALLY! ;) There are always exceptions, of course.

Wyatt’s dad’s vintage Ninja Turtle bedding was altered and passed down to Wyatt, so his nursery is Ninja Turtles. How sweet! They brought along Donatello, and I got the urge to make Wyatt a little mask to match, though I am not a fan of newborn props covering baby’s eyes, so I opted to keep it above instead.

During the session, when I was trying to get him calm for the detail shots of his feet and hands, etc., I told him not to pee on me, and literally the next second he started peeing! He showed me! :)

Giuliana (6 weeks old) Sneak Peek {Bermuda Atlanta Marietta Newborn Infant Photographer}

Giuliana was what some photographers refer to as an “oldborn”…an older than usual newborn to photograph. Generally, after the first 14 days, babies are not photographed professionally again until the standard 3 months, unless of course you are doing a lifestyle session at your home. Giuliana was 6 weeks old when we did her session. She lives in Bermuda with her mom, dad, and older brother, but there are only two photographers in Bermuda, and they were all booked up, so she ended up coming to see me :) Such a beautiful girl, and I love the shot of her mom feeding her. Breastfeeding sessions are done all of the time to document that special bond, and bottle feeding is just as special for mother and baby, so why not?!

Sometimes at older newborns will surprise you and allow you to capture some unexpected “posed” newborn shots, but every baby is different, and it’s very hard to predict whether that will happen. Luckily, Julianna’s mom had no expectations to get those types of photos, and that was a good thing, because I could tell that we would not get those with little Julianna. At 6 weeks old, she’s already a feisty little thing who knows what she wants! :)

It’s a nice change, though, to get some shots of babies awake in those first few weeks of life. She was actually very good about looking in the direction of the camera, for the most part. It can be a real struggle with older newborns to get them to at least look in the direction of the camera. Oftentimes, they’re looking off in a different direction. We also took her out to Marietta Square to do a few shots, and it was quite chilly and windy, despite the fact that it was supposed to be in the 60’s.

Mom is bringing back the entire family in the summer, and I can’t wait to capture their whole family when we have more time and hopefully some awesome sunset light! Mom has no photos of the entire family, so it will be great to give them that!

Aidan Sneak Peek {Alanta Newborn Photographer Marietta, Cumming Newborn Photography, Atlanta Newborn Baby Photos}

Aidan was one chunky boy! I love chunky babies! :) He was 12 days old as we had to postpone a few days due to the ice storm we had in Atlanta, but we still got lots of cute photos of him! Dad and big brother came along so that we could get a family shot, and then Dad took big brother home, and we finished up. Aidan was typical of a 12-day-old newborn during his newborn photography session. He was mostly good, but he did have some fussy times, which is normal at that age. I find 12 days to be when babies will normally sort of instantly become more alert and therefore harder to pose. It worked out fine, though!

Aidan had really nice skin and was not too red or yellow as well. And what a perfect little nose he has!

Davis & Reid Twin Newborn Sneak Peek {Atlanta Newborn Alpharetta Newborn Photography, Marietta Newborn Photographer}

Davis and Reid were a joy to photograph! Davis was quite a bit larger than his brother, Reid. Reid was a tiny little peanut! :) I was concerned about Reid’s size as he was around 4-5 pounds, but it worked out just fine. Mom was super excited to have their pictures done so that she could surprise Dad with some photos for Valentine’s Day. Mom brought grandma along, who was absolutely smitten with her new (and first!) grandchildren. Mom and Dad tried for a number of years and were finally blessed with two babies! :)

I always love photographing twins. There is so much that you can do with them, and it’s so sweet how they are comfortable lying together as they were used to it in the womb. Davis was a little easier to photograph as he was more chunky, and usually chunky babes are a bit happier. But we got lots of great shots with them. Hope to see them again :)

P.S. Everyone loves the bear hats and always wants to use them…was so cute to be able to use them together!
